Turgutreis

Turgutreis ist eine kleine Stadt an der Westküste der Halbinsel von Bodrum im Südwesten der Türkei. Die Stadt wurde nach dem größten Sohn der Gegend, Admiral Turgut Reis benannt. Traditionell war der Mandarinen- und Gemüseanbau vorherrschend. Seit einigen Jahren ist Turgutreis vom Tourismus entdeckt worden.s Bevor man sich jedoch aufmacht das Umland zu erobern, lohnt eine Erkundung des Stadtzentrums, das zwischen reich bepflanzten Grünanlagen mit einer Fußgängerzone, Restaurants, Bars und in den Abendstunden gut besuchten Discotheken aufwarten kann. Turgutreis ist dank seines vorherrschenden Nordwestwinds (Poyraz) für Windsurfer und Segler sehr gut geeignet. Der vorgelagerte Archipel aus kleinen, schroff aus dem tiefblauen Meer hervorragenden Inseln und Inselchen wie Çatalada gehört zu den schönsten Panoramen der Ägäis. Nahe liegt auch die griechische Insel Kos – in weniger als einer halben Stunde mit dem Luftkissenboot zu erreichen. Am Abendhorizont sind Pserimos, Kalymnos und Leros (Dodekanes) zu sehen. Gulet-Tagestouren kreuzen im Archipel und westlich bis Gümüşlük (dem antiken Myndos, das dem Brutus Asyl bot), östlich bis Akyarlar. Seit 2005 findet unter freiem Himmel ein Klassik-Musik-Festival mit den ersten türkischen und internationalen Orchestern und Solisten statt.

Ortakent

Ortakent ist eine zum Kreis Bodrum gehörende Gemeinde in der Provinz Mugla. Ortakent liegt in der Mitte der Bodrum-Halbinsel, an der die Stadt Bodrum mit dem Westen der Halbinsel (Turgutreis) verbindenden Hauptstraße. Im Jahre 1999 wurde der benachbarte Ort Yahsi eingemeindet. Zusammen bilden sie nun die Gemeinde Ortakent-Yahsi. Haupterwerbszweige sind die Landwirtschaft (Oliven, Mandarinen) sowie der in den letzten Jahren immer stärker zunehmende Tourismus. Jeden Mittwoch findet im Zentrum Ortakents ein Basar statt. Anfang Januar ist Ortakent alljährlich Austragungsort eines Kamelkampfes.
